Here at Theuniskraal, the vines are part of our family’s story. They’ve been with us through seasons of abundance and years of challenge, through harvests that came with laughter and those marked by quiet perseverance. Three generations of the Jordaan family have walked between these rows, their footsteps different but their purpose the same — to honour the land, the craft, and each other.
Lessons in the Vineyard
Our earliest memories are not written in books; they are found in the crunch of the earth beneath our boots, in the way the vines lean into the morning light, in the scent of fermenting grapes rising from the cellar.
From those before us, we learned that a vineyard is patient. It demands respect, and it rewards care. We learned that a winemaker’s hand is only as good as their listening ear — for it is the land, the seasons, and the grapes themselves that guide the process.
These are the lessons that have shaped us. Lessons that began with Helena Debora’s leap of faith in 1927, deepened with Andries’s vision in the 1940s, and were strengthened by the wisdom of Rennie and Kobus in their years of stewardship.
